Forest Service Campgrounds
You'll find the prettiest spots in Oak Creek Canyon off AZ 89A. You can make reservations for some sites at Cave Springs and Pine Flat at 877/444-6777, www.recreation.gov. Otherwise you'll need to arrive by Friday morning or even Thursday to find a weekend spot at any of the campgrounds. All have a $16 fee, plus $7 for a second vehicle. None provide hookups, but Cave Springs offers coin showers. Trailers and large RVs (up to 36 feet) should head for Cave Springs or Pine Flat Campgrounds.
Manzanita Campground, 5.6 miles north of Sedona on the right, is open year-round and is often the first to fill up. Bootlegger Campground, 8.4 miles north of town on the left, is small—only ten sites—and lacks drinking water, but some people prefer it; it closes Nov. to mid-April. Cave Springs Campground, 11.1 miles north, lies west across the creek and has the most secluded setting; it also closes Nov. to mid-April. Pine Flat Campground, one mile farther, has loops on both sides of the highway; it closes mid-Nov. to March.
Chavez Group Campground lies at the south edge of town off AZ 179, just beyond Radisson Poco Diablo Resort. Sites are available by reservation only at 877/444-6777, www.recreation.gov.
Oak Creek Canyon and most of the Red Rock Country are restricted to established campground use. Backpackers can camp in wilderness areas if they go at least one mile in from the wilderness boundary. The Forest Service in Sedona (928/282-4119, www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino) can advise on both established and dispersed camping.

RV Parks
Hawkeye RV Park (40 Art Barn Rd. in Uptown Sedona, 928/282-2222, $17 tents, $22.50-$27.50 RVs w/hookups) offers year-round sites with showers, laundry, and access to Oak Creek; the campground may close soon, so it's a good idea to call ahead. The other RV parks in town also stay open year-round, but don't accept tents.
Rancho Sedona RV Park (928/282-7255 or 888/641-4261) offers shaded sites beside Oak Creek with showers, laundry, store, and phone/Internet connections; $29 w/water & electric, $36.50 w/full hookups, $40 for the adult quiet area, and $55 for full-service sites close to the creek. From the Y, head south a half-mile on Hwy. 179, turn left on Schnebly Hill Road, then left on Bear Wallow Lane.
Lo Lo Mai Springs (928/634-4700, www.lolomai.com) has tent sites ($25 s, $30 d), RV sites ($30-40 w/hookups), and cabins ($55-125 d and up) along Oak Creek southwest of town. The 26-acre grounds have shade trees, showers, a pool, hot tub, playground, and volleyball and basketball courts. Head west 10 miles on Hwy. 89A, turn left 1.7 miles on Page Springs Road/Yavapai County 50, then left at the sign.
